Development Program:
Qualifications
and Application Process
Candidates for entrance into the PDP will have satisfied the requirements for an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering or a related discipline. All other requirements for admission to the PDP are identical to those required for admission into the traditional chemical engineering Master's program (i.e. GRE, transcripts, etc.). Interested candidates should apply to the Department of Chemical Engineering's graduate program following the standard procedure described on the graduate division website ( http://grad.berkeley.edu ). Indicate that you are applying for a Master's degree in chemical engineering (Plan II). In addition, we ask that applicants label the Statement of Purpose essay "MS-PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM" and notify PDP Executive Director Keith Alexander by email kalexand@berkeley.edu so that he may track the progress of your application. Candidates should also use the Statement of Purpose to provide a compelling explanation of why the PDP is the right next step given their career aspirations and what industry specialization track they intend to pursue. The admission decision to the PDP will be made by a faculty committee in consultation with the PDP Executive Director. We plan to begin accepting applications (preferably online at http://grad.berkeley.edu from prospective students starting on November 1, 2007. You may also request a written application from: 201 Gilman Hall, Berkeley, California, 94720. The last day to submit an application is January 8, 2008. Early application is strongly encouraged as we expect strong demand for the limited number of students we can admit to the PDP this year. U.C. Berkeley graduating seniors from the Department of Chemical Engineering will be considered for entrance into the PDP on a selective basis. However, by standing departmental policy, U.C. Berkeley graduates are encouraged to continue their education at another institution. Admission to the PDP will in no way have an effect on current or future applications to the department's traditional M.S. or Ph.D. programs. |
